Latest Birds of Prey Interviews and Photos

After staying in Mexico over the weekend, the Birds of Prey cast that includes Mary, Margo, Ella Jay and Jurnee are currently in London where they will have a red carpet premiere there today (January 29). I have added some photos of them at the UK photo call which you can view in the gallery.

There are also some new interviews with them! In the first interview, Mary spoke with CBR about which characters she’d like to interact with in the future DC universe, one of them being Oracle:

In addition to Oracle, Mary Elizabeth Winstead wants other members of the Batman family. Winstead said, “I would love to be against, for us to be a part of the Batman universe. I know our version of Helena isn’t the version of Helena who’s related to Batman,” referring to the pre-Crisis Huntress, who was was actually the daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. “But still being a part of that universe… the new Catwoman, I think is amazing.”

Referring to the upcoming DC film The Batman, Winstead and the other stars were quick to share their excitement for Zoe Kravitz to take on the role of Catwoman. “I think that’s going to be really exciting,” Winstead said. “I was really into the Michelle Pfeiffer version, but now I’m really really into the Zoe Kravitz version, I’m so excited… That would be amazing, so cool to see how all those characters collide.”

In an interview for Fandango, the cast interview each other on what it’s like to be the first all-female antihero team-up, what it was like to suit up their characters’ wild gear, and how the action sequences set this movie apart from the rest.

A new interview with Glamour Mexico:

New ‘Birds of Prey’ Interviews

Now that the Birds of Prey promo tour has started, interviews are being done and put online. Below you will see a few interviews and behind the scenes footage of the film. The cast also spoke with Variety at last night’s Harleywood event and defended the film’s R rating. The Birds of Prey cast is currently in Mexico, where they will screen the film for the first time.

“I think it’s very true to who Harley is…She’s the one telling the story, so we see it through her eyes and her eyes are quite poppy and creative and unlike anything else. I think it’s totally uninhibited in every way. That’s what it felt like shooting it. We got to do whatever we wanted. We got to improv. We’re throwing around curse words.”

Mary and the ‘Birds of Prey’ Cast Cover Glamour Magazine

The Birds of Prey promotional tour is kicking off and Mary and her co-stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez are featured in the new digital issue of Glamour UK. You can also read more about their Glamour shoot here. Click the pics below to view the whole set and see some behind the scenes videos from the shoot.

Speaking to the magazine, Mary opened up about starting a new chapter in her life after getting divorced:

“I got divorced a couple of years ago, which was a scary, crazy thing for me because I had been with the same person since I was 18 years old, and that was what I knew. All the way through my twenties I was trying very hard to keep myself the same, because another thing I heard a lot growing up was people saying, ‘you’re so great, never change.’ You can take that to heart, in the wrong way, and try to keep yourself from growing too much because you don’t know what’s on the other side. So I was really starting new as an adult for the first time in my life. For me that was a big turning point, being OK with changing, accepting that change is a good thing and that it’s OK not to know where that change is going to take you.”

On how Scott Pilgrim VS the World affected her after it performed poorly at the box office:

“When I was 24 years old, I did this movie, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and it didn’t do well. Had that happened now I would handle it much better. But I was really disappointed. I thought it was going to be really big and I thought my career was going to change but it didn’t, it just stayed the same. It took a couple of years for me to really wrap my head around being grateful for those couple of years of not really getting much great work and having, I’m- never-going-to-match-anything dark moments. Twentysomething-me couldn’t have the perspective that the thirtysomething-me has on that kind of experience. I had the time to really figure out who I was and what I wanted, and I did exactly that in those couple of dry years after that movie came out.”

On how she’s changed now that she’s in her 30s:

I’ve got to the point where I just don’t give a sh*t. I’ve also had this feminist awakening when you look around and, for a lot of us I think it started happening at the same time as the Me Too movement, a lot of things that had been lying dormant within us started waking up, and realizing so many of us felt the same way and we don’t actually have to accept it.

SciFi Now Magazine Scans and Interview

The cast of Birds of Prey was interviewed by SciFi Now Magazine in Los Angeles a few months ago when they were filming the upcoming DC film. During their visit, they spoke to Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), and Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya) as well as Chris Messina. Here are some of the highlights from the interview when they spoke to Mary who plays Huntress. You can read the full interview by visiting the gallery and clicking the pics below:

Her version of the character is Helena Bertinelli, “the daughter of a very powerful mob boss who was murdered in front of her when she was a child along with the rest of her family. So she was raised from a very young age to be a deadly assassin. And as she grows up, she essentially has one mission, which is to avenge the deaths of her family and go after the people who played a part in their murders.”

Mary also revealed that the film takes places within 24 hours and there’s something each character wants or needs so it adds a sense of urgency for all of them as to why they’re going to collide and work together. Getting along with the cast was easy for Mary who found them all “fun and funny and reverent and easy to be around.”

Finally, Mary had to do a lot of stunt training, weapons training, and discussed how she felt wearing her Huntress costume, where multiple versions of it will be seen throughout the film thanks to flashbacks:

I’m in quite a few different iterations of that look, and it was just great because they were all outfits that I could move in very easily. I was never in high heels or something so tight I couldn’t kick or roll or move in properly, and it was all very realistic in terms of being tactical…I felt very cool and very empowered, and I just really absolutely loved it.
