Smashed Gets October Release Date!

This is practically only two months away! Sony Classics acquired US distribution for Mary’s upcoming film Smashed, and has now set the release date for the film as October 12th.

If you recall, Smashed debuted at Sundance this year to incredibly strong reviews, and jointly won the Special Jury Prize for Excellence in Independent Film Producing.

Winstead will star alongside Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul, The Help‘s Octavia Spencer, Megan Mullaly, Parks & Rec’s Nick Offerman.

“Kate and Charlie like to have a good time. Their marriage thrives on a shared fondness for music, laughter . . . and getting smashed. When Kate’s partying spirals into hard-core asocial behavior, compromising her job as an elementary schoolteacher, something’s got to give. But change isn’t exactly a cakewalk. Sobriety means she will have to confront the lies she’s been spinning at work, her troubling relationship with her mother, and the nature of her bond with Charlie.”

SPC will likely give the film a limited release first in LA and New York before the film gets distributed nationwide. As more details emerge, I’ll let you all know! 🙂

Mary Joins New Indie Film, The Spectacular Now!

Chalk up a new film for Mary! Variety is reporting that Mary has joined James Ponsoldt’s latest film, The Spectacular Now. Along with new cast members Kyle Chandler, Bob Odenkirk and Andre Royo, Chandler will play Teller’s dad, while Winstead will play his sister.

The coming-of-age tale follows Sutter Keely (Teller), a high school senior who only lives for the moment, and Aimee Finecky (Woodley), the mercurial introvert he attempts to “save” from life as a social outcast. As their relationship deepens, the lines between right and wrong, friendship and love, saving and corrupting, become inextricably blurred.

The film stars Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller and Brie Larson, while Kaitlyn Dever, Masam Holden and Dayo Okeniyi with production currently underway in Athens, Georgia.

FYI: Mary & Ponsoldt most recently worked with Ponsoldt on the soon-to-be released film, SMASHED.

Congrats Mary! 🙂

Could YOU Star with Mary in A Beauty Inside?

An online casting call has gone out via Facebook today, offering anyone from anywhere in the world the chance to co-star alongside actors Topher Grace and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in The Beauty Inside. The film, part of a co-marketing campaign for Toshiba and Intel, marks the second time the two brands and their agency, Pereira & O’Dell, have launched a global social film project–last year, it was the thriller The Inside Experience, directed by D.J. Caruso.

This time around, Drake Doremus, best known for Like Crazy, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Drama at the Sundance Film Festival last year, takes the reins of a romantic comedy that centers on a guy named Alex (Grace) who wakes up every day with a new face and body, complicating his romance with Leah (Winstead). “The story was exciting to me–the idea of waking up in somebody else’s skin every day but being the same person on the inside,” Doremus says. “That was some territory I was interested in exploring.”

The Beauty Inside, which will roll out in installments on Facebook over the course of six weeks beginning on August 16, with the winners of the casting call appearing as Alex as he records his web diary.

Those who try out will be required to record themselves reading an audition script via an app provided on Facebook, and they will be able to ask their Facebook friends to “like” their video, which will increase the likelihood of it being chosen. (That said, Doremus will have the final say over who goes in the film.)
