Mary in Total Film Magazine!
Mary looks stunning in the newest issue of Total Film magazine where she talks about her new film Smashed due out December 14th in the UK. When asked if she knew taking on the role of Kate and the film was going to be a good career move for her, Mary admits: “I didn’t think of it so much as a great career move, but I knew it was what I needed to do. I was just feeling really scared of not becoming a better actor and of getting stuck.”

Trailer Debut and Screencaps for A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan
The teaser trailer for Roman Coppola’s new film A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III has finally been released online and you can view it below. In the film out February 8, 2013, Charlie Sheen stars as a successful graphic designer whose fame and fortune have made him irresistible to women. After his girlfriend breaks up with him, he heads into a downward spiral that forces him to look back on his failed romantic history. The trailer is also up on Apple.

Quentin Tarantino Says Death Proof is the “worst film” He’s Ever Made
In a new interview with Yahoo!, director Quentin Tarantino has admitted that the worst film he has made is his Grindhouse film Death Proof.
The 2007 film starred Kurt Russell as a malevolent stuntman who stalks a group of women, and murders them with his muscle-car. Though intended to be a homage to the exploitation b-movies of the 70s, it was the first failure for Tarantino at the box office.
“Death Proof has got to be the worst movie I ever made. And for a left-handed movie, that wasn’t so bad, all right? So if that’s the worst I ever get, I’m good. But I do think one of those out-of-touch, old, limp, flaccid-d*** movies costs you three good movies as far as your rating is concerned.”
Though many critics reviewed it positively, others found its graphic violence ‘juvenile’.
At the time, Tarantino was more charitable, saying: “It was disappointing, yeah. But the movie worked with the audience. People who saw it loved it and applauded. I’m proud of my flop.”
Ah well. Win some, lose some.

The Guardian Interviews Mary on Smashed
Just like the headline reads, The Guardian sat down and interviewed Mary about her film Smashed. Below are some highlights from the interview. Be sure to read the FULL interview by clicking on the link above:
“I really didn’t have any fear about the humiliation factor,” she says. “That was something I was excited to get the opportunity to explore. My fears were about pulling it off.” Her extensive research included attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for several months. “I came into it very quietly: I didn’t say I was an actor. If they asked me to speak, I’d tell them I had come to learn about AA. I never pretended to be anything I wasn’t. But I also didn’t want to stand up and say: ‘Hey guys – I’m making a movieee! Anyone wanna tell me their story?'”
Her empathy for the character is unwavering, whether she’s rallying herself unconvincingly for her pupils or staggering down the street after waking up on a discarded mattress. One particular scene stands out: Kate’s breakdown after being refused alcohol in a convenience store. The scene ends with her sobbing as she urinates on the floor. “Most of the work in that scene is done before you get on set,” she explains. “It was all to do with Kate reverting to a point in her childhood when she wanted something really badly but couldn’t have it. As a little kid, you’ll try everything. You go from cute to cross, you start throwing things and then you burst out crying. She’s reaching back to that.”

The Spectacular Now Heads to Sundance; A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan Poster Debuts
Some new Mary updates are now available and it’s all pretty fantastic. First, Mary will be heading back to Sundance in January with her Smashed director James Ponsoldt as their new film The Spectacular Now has been selected to premiere under the festival’s dramatic competition. The film will also star Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller. Here’s the info via Sundance:
Sundance Institute announced today the films selected for the U.S. and World Cinema Dramatic and Documentary Competitions and the out-of-competition section of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, January 17-27 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
The Spectacular Now / U.S.A. (Director: James Ponsoldt, Screenwriters: Scott Neustadter, Michael H. Weber) — Sutter is a high school senior who lives for the moment; Aimee is the introvert he attempts to “save.” As their relationship deepens, the lines between right and wrong, friendship and love, and “saving” and corrupting become inextricably blurred. Cast: Miles Teller, Shailene Woodley, Brie Larson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kyle Chandler.
