New Updates on A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan

EW did an interview with A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III director Roman Coppola where they revealed that the film will be out sometime in February 2013. Coppola also revealed a little bit about Mary’s role in the film:

Aubrey Plaza and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are also in the film. How do these women shape the things going on in his head?
Aubrey Plaza is the producer of his design studio. She’s trying to keep him on the ball in terms of keeping him focused and applying his energy to getting his work done. His business is foundering a bit. And Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays the best friend of his girlfriend who just broke up with him. She is not so supportive of their relationship.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Set in a stylized Los Angeles, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III is a daring, playful comedy of lost love, friendship, revenge fantasies, and Brandy Alexanders. Charles (Charlie Sheen) is a successful graphic designer whose fame, money andcharm have provided him with a seemingly perfect life. When his true love, a perplexing beauty named Ivana, suddenly breaks off their relationship, Charles’ life falls apart and he swirls into a downward spiral of doubt, confusion and reflection. With the support of his loyal intimates— Kirby (Jason Schwartzman), Saul (Bill Murray), and his sister, Izzy (Patricia Arquette) — he begins the hard road of self-evaluation to come to terms with a life without Ivana. The film begs the question: Is it possible to love and hate someone at the same time?

Mary Featured in The Lab Magazine!

With Smashed coming out this fall, The Lab magazine has done an interview with Mary with the questions being done by her Smashed co-star Nick Offerman. Below are some of the questions Nick asked Mary, and you can read the full interview here. Be sure to check out the lovely pics of Mary in the gallery. Love their interview! So charming and funny.

Have you been in a less comfortable scene than our driveway scene in Smashed

MEW—I can’t help but think you were more uncomfortable than me. I watched as you slowly died inside and I felt the utmost embarrassment for you. In a good way!

If you were forced to tell me a name-droppy story that your usual humility would normally prohibit, what would it be?

MEW—I once had dinner with Warren Beatty and Annette Bening and he told me stories about Natalie Wood, Madonna, and Edie Sedgwick. I just dropped that on you so hard.

NO—I tried Twitter for a few weeks then promptly quit because I think it has a pernicious influence upon us. How do you feel about the social network Kool-Aid?

MEW—I come very close to deleting my Twitter account on an almost daily basis, but it keeps reeling me in. I’m quite terrified of my own reliance on technology/social media and admired your decisive move away from it. I am simply too weak!

NO—Which of your co-stars did you find more charming: me or Donny Osmond?

MEW—The only real memory I have of Donny Osmond is that we threw him a party at which we all wore purple socks. Apparently he likes his socks in a particular hue. And he has a dazzling smile, but no facial hair. I think we all know who wins this battle.

Toronto Star Reviews Smashed Plus new The Spectacular Now Pics

With TIFF just around the corner, The Toronto Star has reviewed Mary’s upcoming film Smashed saying her performance is “superb”:

A superb, career-making performance by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Kate, a young, married Grade 1 teacher who is what they call a “high-functioning alcoholic.” Her husband (Aaron Paul) is her drinking buddy but the party is getting increasingly out of hand, as evidenced in the first shocking scenes. The script goes to some predictable places but is lifted by the supporting cast, especially Megan Mullally as her trusting principal and Mary Kay Place as Kate’s similarly afflicted mother.

So happy for Mary! Here’s to an Oscar nomination. 🙂

Also, some new behind-the-scenes pics of Mary in The Spectacular Now have been posted via the film’s screenplay writer, where Mary wrapped all her scenes for the film.

RT @thisisweber: That’s a wrap for the so cool, so talented @M_E_Winstead! Thank you for being a part of #TheSpectacularNow!

Mary to Star in Boxing Drama “Johnny”?

According to the site fightnews, Hollywood is planning two upcoming projects based on former boxing champion Johnny Tapia. The first is a soon-to-be-released documentary, entitled “Tapia,” highlighting Tapia’s triumphs and tribulations .The second is a Hollywood feature – “Johnny” – which will soon start filming in New Mexico early next year. The actor cast in the role of young Tapia is Shiloh Fernandez. Teresa will be played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

This is all just rumored for now, but if any confirmation or debunking comes along, I’ll be sure to update you guys. Also, it seems that A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III will be hitting theaters next year and a composer has already been set in place. According to Indiewire:

In an interview with GQ, however, Coppola provided a little update on the pic regarding music, noting that he “used exclusively the music of Liam Hayes” having been “absorbed” by his tunes.

Roman Coppola (the film’s director) also talked a little bit about the film:

Coppola recently explained to Interview Magazine that “for me, magic means a sense of delight, and a sense of play in fantasy. And that for sure is in the movie. It’s very imaginative in that there’s certain points of fantasy. There’s also a Western sequence, and there’s just a lot of twist and turns. In order to come to terms and come to understand this relationship that is over, he learns to process it in his own unique way.”
