‘John Wick’ Director to Choreograph New Scenes for ‘Birds of Prey’; TPYL Gets New Festival Date

This is all around very exciting news, and I for one, am suuuuuuuper excited about this! It was just announced via THR that the director of the John Wick films Chad Stahelski, has been brought on board by Warner Bros. to oversee second unit photography for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Though Cathy Yan is directing the film, reshoots are rumored to begin next month, and Stahelski will then be brought in,  taking an uncredited role and tackling and designing new action scenes for the movie.

Hitting theaters on February 7, 2020, Birds of Prey follows the story of Margot Robbie’s character Harley Quinn from the Suicide Squad films gathering up other female heroes such as Black Canary (Jurnee Bell) and the Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) to take on a crime lord by the name of Black Mask (Ewan McGregor).

In other news, The Parts You Lose will be playing at the Fin Atlantic International Film Festival on September 19 at 2pm in Halifax, NS! You can purchase tickets for that event HERE.

Woody Harrelson Joins Mary in Netflix Film ‘Kate’

Just as the headline states, actor Woody Harrelson has joined Mary in her upcoming Netflix film Kate. The plot for the film is as follows:

After she’s irreversibly poisoned, a ruthless criminal operative (Winstead) has less than 24 hours to exact revenge on her enemies and in the process forms an unexpected bond with the daughter of one of her past victims.

Harrelson will play the operative’s mentor, a man who may have conflicting intentions.

Directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) and written by Umair Aleem, the movie will also be produced by Bryan Unkeless (I, Tonya, Bright, Birds of Prey), Kelly McCormick (Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw) and Patrick Newall (Dhaka, The Old Man And The Gun). Executive producers are David Leitch (John Wick) and Scott Morgan.

A fall shoot is expected to begin in Asia later this year with rumored locations being in Japan and Thailand.

Back in May, it was reported that Netflix was looking for an Asian actress to take on the role of Ani, a Yakuza Princess who is a spoiled brat that is deeply connected to the criminal underworld of the Yakuza in Tokyo, Japan. After being poisoned, Kate kidnaps Ani for leverage to infiltrate the Japanese Yakuza and track down her murderer.

‘Kate’ to Begin Filming This Fall in Tokyo

After it was previously announced late last month that Mary would be playing a deadly assassin in a new Netflix film, it’s now been revealed that filming will begin on September 19 in Japan with additional scenes to possibly be shot in Thailand. More plot details have also been released:

Ani, a Yakuza Princess, is a spoiled brat that is deeply connected to the criminal underworld of the Yakuza in Tokyo, Japan. She is both prone to profanity and seems much more mature than her age would suggest. After being poisoned, Kate kidnaps Ani for leverage to infiltrate the Japanese Yakuza and track down her murderer with less than 24 hours to live.

According to HN Entertainment, Netflix is looking to cast young Asian actresses in the lead role of Ani along with how the character factors into the plot opposite Winstead in the Toyko-set action flick.

Below is the casting breakdown for the role of Ani.

LEAD ROLE OF ANI

*12-15

*FEMALE

*ASIAN, SOUTHEAST ASIAN OR PACIFIC ISLANDER

*SPEAKS BOTH JAPANESE & ENGLISH – FLUENCY NOT REQUIRED

Clearly she’s focusing on her work and it’s just been announced by Variety that she will star in the Netflix film Kate.

New Casting Updates for Birds of Prey; Spin-offs Rumored

Two new actresses have been added to the long list of the Birds of Prey cast. First up is actress Charlene Amoia. Amoia, who played Wendy the Waitress in CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, will play Maria Bertinelli, the mother of Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s vigilante the Huntress/Helena Bertinelli and the wife of mafia syndicate gangster Franco Bertinelli.

And according to the imdb cast list, Ella Mika will be playing a ‘young Helena Berinelli’ in the film.

Additionally, it is being rumored that if Birds of Prey does well at the box office, we could potentially see a spinoff of Mary’s character the Huntress.

According to sources close to We Got This Covered, Warner Bros. is developing solo movies for Huntress, Black Canary and Cassandra Cain that could be going into production if Birds of Prey proves a big enough hit at the box office. Additionally, it’s said that Rosie Perez’s character Renee Montoya could be getting the same treatment, too, though this possibility is deemed less likely.

This is very exciting news! Can’t wait to see the first trailer for the movie.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will hit theaters on February 7, 2020.
