Welp…in news that is sure to be a bummer, it’s been confirmed by THR that PBS’ civil war mini series Mercy Street will not return for a third season.
PBS and the producers cited “the complicated nature of aligning production timelines and funding commitments” as the reason behind the show’s sudden end.
“We are extremely proud of both seasons of Mercy Street,” said Beth Hoppe, PBS chief programming executive. “Our talented executive producers, Lisa Wolfinger, David Zabel and David W. Zucker, brought to life an entertaining and historically accurate account of this time, along with the equally talented team of actors led by Josh Radnor as Dr. Jedediah Foster and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Nurse Mary Phinney; the directors, producers and crew who created a visually rich, high-quality series; and our sponsors and partners who helped make Mercy Street possible.”
Premiering in January 2016 alongside the final run of DowntonAbbey, Mercy Street marked PBS’ first original series in more than a decade. The drama opened to 3.3 million viewers and ranked as PBS’ second highest-rated drama of 2016, behind only DowntonAbbey. Season two, which kicked off in late January and wrapped March 5, drew 6.5 million viewers for the first three episodes with seven days of DVR factored in.
In other news, after much casting rumors that bounced around for months, Mary will not be playing Domino in Deadpool 2. Instead, the role will be played by Atlanta‘s Zazie Beetz.

Just as the title reads, our first look at Carrie Coon, Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the new season of FX’s “Fargo” has arrived! The latest promo aired during last night’s premiere of Feud. I’ve also capped Mary’s appearance in the gallery. The new season will air April 19.
The show’s synopsis is as follows:
Set in 2010, the third installment of Fargo centers on “Emmit” and his slightly younger brother “Ray Stussy” (Ewan McGregor). Emmit, the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, sees himself as an American success story, whereas Ray is more of a cautionary tale. Forever living in his more successful brother’s shadow, Ray is a balding and pot-bellied parole officer with a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt – and he blames his brother. Their sibling rivalry follows a twisted path that begins with petty theft but soon leads to murder, mobsters and cut-throat competitive bridge.
Carrie Coon stars as “Gloria Burgle,” the steady chief of the local police department. A newly divorced mother, Gloria is trying to understand the new world around her, where people connect more intimately with their phones than with the people around them. Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as Ray’s girlfriend, “Nikki Swango,” a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge. David Thewlis stars as “V.M. Vargas,” a mysterious loner and true capitalist whose bosses plan to partner with Emmit, whether “The Parking Lot King” likes it or not.

Posted onWritten byJessicaComments Off on Premiere Date for Season 3 of Fargo Set
Last month while attending the winter TCA panel, a small number of details were released when the cast attended. We knew that the show would be set in 2010, four years after season 1 took place and would present the latest Midwestern “true crime” story. Along with that information, we knew that the new season would premiere in April.
Now today, we’ve learned that season 3 of FX’s Fargo will premiere on Wednesday, April 19 at 10pm.
Currently in production in Calgary, the third season of “Fargo” stars Ewan McGregor as brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy — Emmit the parking-lot king of Minnesota, Ray a balding, pot-bellied parole officer who blames his brother for his misfortunes. Carrie Coon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and David Thewlis also star.
In season 3, Mary will play Nikki Swango, a parolee who’s “smart and street savvy, with the capacity for conniving” and a dark side, but she has a heart. Her character is also dating Ray Stussy (a dual role by Ewan McGregor).
Posted onWritten byJessicaComments Off on New Interview with Mary in Soap Opera Digest
Mary Elizabeth has a brief new interview in the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, which you can view in the gallery. Back in 1999-2000, Mary played the role of Jessica Bennett on Passions. Here’s what she told the mag of her time on the show:
“Gosh. I was so young back then. I was only 14 and didn’t know much about the business. They had such a large cast that I didn’t always have a lot to do because there were so many characters, but I have to say, they were very good about allowing me to leave. And, I learned a lot about working with cameras and memorizing lines, so in that sense it was quite valuable.”
Mary also talks to them about BrainDead‘s cancellation, how filming Fargo on location in Calgary, Canada is “brutal”, and her feelings on when she got the call to join the show[Fargo].
