These photos are epic. I’ve uploaded some new scans of Mary featured in Make Up Artist magazine where the magazine talks about how they achieved all the make-up effects in “The Thing” film. If the text is too small, there’s just a text page that’s a little bigger for you to read. Check out all the scans in the gallery. After seeing this pics, I’m even more pumped for this film!

Scott Pilgrim VS The World Receives 8 Noms in This Year’s Scream Awards
Scott Pilgrim VS The World has received 8 nominations at this year’s SPIKE TV’s SCREAM Awards. The categories include:
- Best Director– Edgar Wright
- Best SCREAM-Play–Scott Pilgrim VS The World
- Best Villain– All of Ramona’s seven evil exes
- Best Supporting Actress– Ellen Wong (Knives)
- Best Supporting Actor- Kieran Culkin (Wallace Wells)
- Fight Scene of the Year– The final fight scene between Michael Cera, Ellen Wong and Jason Schwartzman in Scott Pilgrim
- Best Comic Book Movie– Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
- The Ultimate SCREAM– Scott Pilgrim Vs the World
While I think part of the nominations list is ridiculous, partly because Mary wasn’t even remotely nominated and the film didn’t get more nominations where it should have, I still think we should all try our best to vote everyday and help the movie win some, if not all, categories. The film was fantastic in every way.
The SCREAM awards will be airing on October 18 so be sure to tell your friends and VOTE!
New production still, first clip and new Interview on THE THING
Lots of Mary news regarding The Thing this morning. First up, MTV has debuted a new photo featuring Mary and her co-star Joel Edgerton which you can now view in the gallery.
Secondly, while Mary isn’t featured in the clip, the first clip for the film is now available and if you don’t want to get spoiled, don’t watch, but if you totally want to get the feel for how creepy this film will be, watch the clip below:
Finally, MTV also posted a new interview with Mary talking about The Thing which you can read an excerpt about below. The full interview can be read when you click on the MTV link above:
MTV: What’s the bigger threat for you on set in Canada? Is it losing your voice from screaming all the time or losing your fingers from frostbite?
Mary Elizabeth Winstead: I think it was fainting from nearly hyperventilating. That was the biggest thing. Also, by the end of it, we were shooting in the summer and we were acting like it was freezing cold and we were all in parkas and layers and layers of gloves and hats, and it was humid and hot outside. There was a lot of heat exhaustion setting in. It was kind of crazy — we had to act cold. I didn’t have to do a lot of screaming in this, which was good. It was just a lot of that kind of heavy breathing, where you’re trying to keep your composure and trying not to fall apart. It’s that really small, fast breathing and take, after take, after take of that kind of thing, you start to get lightheaded and start to get a little woozy.
MTV: There are a lot of remakes and new takes on cult classics, and I think a lot of people feel, “I’m OK with it, if they get it right.” For you guys on set, was that sort of pressure on your minds? And do you think you did get it right?
Winstead: There was definitely a lot of pressure, because everyone involved is a fan of the John Carpenter version. None of us wanted to mess it up and none of us wanted to sully the legend of the John Carpenter film. We wanted to add to it in a positive way, a fun way, and make something that could go hand in hand with that film. And that’s what we did. I think we made a film that’s a really great standalone film, but also something that’s really cool if you’re a fan of the John Carpenter version, just to get a little insight into what may have occurred before. I think it’s just a good movie regardless of how you feel about remakes and prequels and all of that. At least you can go see a good film and hopefully put that aside and just be there and go along for the ride.
Next Movie Names Mary as One of Fall 2011’s Biggest Breakout Stars
Next Movie compiled a list of 15 actors and actresses who they believe will be the biggest fall breakout stars of 2011. Among them was our very own Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Here’s what they had to say about her:
In this prequel to John Carpenter’s terrifying 1982 movie, Winstead takes a flamethrower to her “Scott Pilgrim” alter ego Ramona Flowers, not to mention a whole buttload of slimy, gooey, awful aliens. While we loved Ramona’s cool style and multicolored hair, it’s great to see Winstead as a parka-wearing scientist caught in the middle of an increasingly horrific situation. (Not to mention that Carpenter’s “The Thing” was all dudes, all the time.) We’ll be seeing more of Winstead next summer as Mary Todd Lincoln in Timur Bekmambetov’s big screen adaptation of “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” alongside Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, and Anthony Mackie. So protect your neck — Ms. Winstead’s coming.
Mary’s star has always shined, it’s only a matter of time until the rest of Hollywood and the rest of the world notices if you ask me. Best wishes to Mary and her career. 🙂

New Thing Wallpapers and Production Still
Hey, everyone! thethingmovie.net has been updated with some new wallpapers I’ve already added them to the gallery. If you visit the site and click around, you can see a little bit of new footage. You can view the HQ wallpapers in the gallery:
Also, I’ve added one new production still that you can also view in the gallery.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a Scene Stealer
Mary’s one of four women profiled in the latest L.A. Times feature where they compliment them being one of the generations leading ladies.
Here’s what they had to say about Mary Elizabeth:
A producer recently told me that women like horror flicks more than men. That tidbit is a tad ironic, given the sheer number of ingenues who have met their doom at the end of a slasher’s knife. Winstead herself loves a good gorefest, having costarred in flicks ranging from Grindhouse to Final Destination 3. But her next horror gig holds particular significance: As the first female lead in the latest reimagining of The Thing, due out October 14, she straps herself into a parka, hardens her normally doe-like gaze into a stony stare and joins Milla Jovovich and Sigourney Weaver in the elite club of leading ladies who utterly kick monster butt. “I don’t have a lot of friends who relate to the girls walking around in Daisy Dukes,” says Winstead. “I don’t relate to it, and I don’t relate to the rom-com girl crying into her Ben & Jerry’s, either. But this character is strong, smart and takes care of herself. When I saw the script, I knew it was something I could not say no to.”

Trailer Screencaps Added
Hey, everyone! Just decided to give you guys a quick update on everything. As you may have noticed, Melanie & I have been really hard at work rebuilding not only the site, but the gallery as well. We’ve already managed to update the gallery with all events, photo shoots, scans, and other projects. Pretty much, all we have left to do is add main film caps and some extras caps. If you have anything you’d like to contribute, don’t hesitate to use the contact button on the homepage under the site info on the left hand side of the page. Until then, I have gone ahead and added a couple of trailer screencaps from the ones Mary has appeared in, none of which would’ve been completed without the help of my friend DS. We still have a little more work to do, but we appreciate all your patience and support! 🙂
Without further ado, the trailer caps we’ve uploaded include…
Final Destination 3:
Bobby:
Two trailers for Deathproof:
Live Free or Die Hard:
Make It Happen:
And all three trailers for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World so feel free to visit the gallery to see all three trailer caps from there. Below is just the caps for the full trailer, but the teaser and international trailer have also been posted.
