Mary Lands at #13 in Portrait Mag’s Top 30 Under 30!

Back in October, we told you to vote for Mary in Portrait Magazine’s “Top 30 Under 30”.

Top 30 is about the young celebs who you loved in 2011. Who do you think was the most talented, charismatic, generous and all around awesome?

Well, the results were published today, and Mary came in at #13! Here’s what they wrote:

In 2011, Mary Elizabeth proved that she’s still got what it takes to take the scream queen crown home when she starred in The Thing. With plenty more films up her sleeve– which may or not included a horror flick, we’re looking forward to seeing more of her on screen. Not bad for a former soapie star right?

What’s Next: Upcoming projects for Mary Elizabeth include Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, A Gilmpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III and Smashed.

Way to go, Mary!! And thanks to everyone who voted! 🙂

James Ponsoldt Talks More About Smashed

The more I hear about this film, the more I want to see it. Following the video we posted with director James Ponsoldt talking about Smashed, Indiewire caught up with the director and spoke a little bit more about the film. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“My co-writer – Susan Burke – and I set out to write a screenplay about an alcoholic that didn’t deal in objectification. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who plays our lead, “Kate”) is an amazing, vulnerable, and profoundly empathetic actor, so her ability to fully inhabit the character and make her relatable helped us tremendously. And Susan is sober and has a lot of experience with recovery, so our story should feel authentic.”

“Basically, this was my breakthrough: hire people who are smarter and more talented than yourself, explain your story and ideas clearly, listen to what they have to say and then give them the autonomy and creative freedom to elevate your film. It’s liberating. You can always respectfully disagree if you don’t like something. But to treat everyone as an equal, a collaborator, and to let the best idea win out (wherever it comes from). If a director doesn’t enjoy that, they should probably take up something more solitary, like knitting or whittling.

“I hope audiences like hanging out with the characters in our film; I sure do. And whether “Kate” and “Charlie” – the married couple at the center of “Smashed” – make good partners, or are co-dependent and enable each other’s worst behavior and are better off apart, well, I think it would be great if audiences are completely divided. I’m very curious to hear how people feel.”

I’m so excited to see this film & the way James describes Mary’s acting is so great.

First Posters for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter!

This is pretty cool! The first teaser posters for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter have come online via IGN.

The official plot for the film has also been released:

“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of “Wanted”) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the blood-thirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.”

The screenplay is by Seth Grahame-Smith, based on his novel of the same name. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens June 22, 2012.

The Fox film stars Benjamin Walker as an Honest Abe opposite Mary Elizabeth Winstead (as Mary Todd Lincoln), Alan Tudyk, Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper.
