Behind the Scenes (season 2):
Speaking at the Television Critics Association day for the third season of Fargo yesterday, Mary spoke with Syfy Wire where she said she’d love to step into her character’s shoes Michelle from 10 Cloverfield Lane:
“I know that Dan and I would love to continue that story,” she said with enthusiasm. “The anthology series is where they are going with it, so whether or not that ever comes back to Michelle’s story, I’m not sure. But I know Dan always had more in mind, so I would love the opportunity to explore that. If anybody would every let us do that, we would jump on it.”
In the same interview, she revealed that what draws her to projects lately are the story and character and the creative minds behind project. Right now is such an exciting time because there is so much incredible material in TV, and so many visionaries in TV like Noah (Hawley). I feel like I have been incredibly lucky the last few years to work with some of those people. Sometimes, you want to go off and experiment and do weird things but for the most part I want to stick with people who are really talented.”
Also during the TCA panel, Mary shared her thoughts on why BrainDead was cancelled, saying it was because the show didn’t quite fit into the audience with CBS but applauded the network for giving them a chance.
The Television Critics’ Association (TCA) Panel is in full swing and FX had several panels going on today, including one for the third season of Fargo. Below are several highlights of what we’ve learned so far about the upcoming season and be sure to head to the gallery to see the photos:
Other tidbits (via various twitter users during today’s panel):
Mary Elizabeth Winstead says the cast is told to play their characters as if they could become the hero or villain at any moment. She also said that she’s drawn to things that are “funny, sad, and scary.”
Winstead also said the movie “Fargo” is one of her favorite films. When she got the call, she immediately said yes even though at first, she was initially nervous when she heard they were making a series about it.
Her character’s intelligence and cunning are what make her the “cat” and/or “clarinet” of “Fargo”.
Lastly, the show will premiere some time in April, but no date has been set as of yet.
The winter edition of the Television Critics Association press tour kicks off next week, an event where networks bring in stars to promote their latest television projects and among those, FX is scheduled to bring in Noah Hawley and cast (including Ewan McGregor, Carrie Coon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and David Thewlis) for Season 3 of “Fargo,” expected to air this spring.
The “Fargo” panel is scheduled for Thursday, January 12 so expect to see several photos of Mary as well as some new info on the show!
With season 3 of FX’s Fargo raring to begin production next month in Calgary, some new cast members have been added to the show. David Thewlis, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jim Gaffigan, Scoot McNairy, Karan Soni, Fred Melamed, and Thomas Mann all join Mary, Ewan McGregor and Carrie Coon.
According to Variety, McGregor will play brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. Emmit, described as the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, sees himself as an American success story, whereas Ray is more of a cautionary tale. Their sibling rivalry leads to a twisted path that begins with petty theft, but soon leads to murder, mobsters, and cut-throat competitive bridge. Coon will portray Gloria Burgle, the steady chief of the local police department. A newly divorced mother, Gloria is trying to understand the new world around her. Winstead will play Ray’s girlfriend, Nikki Swango, a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge.
A premiere date hasn’t been set, but the show will air some time next year and is rumored to tie into the events after season 1.
The poster for season 2 of PBS’ drama Mercy Street has premiered and you can head to the gallery to view it in full. Season 2 begins Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 8/7c. If you missed the teaser trailer, you can watch it below:

Well, this is a bummer. CBS has officially cancelled BrainDead after one season. According to THR, after the network launched the show with a massive marketing push, the series debuted to just under 5 million live-same-day viewers in June before finishing its run in September with half the viewership.
Mary starred on the show alongside Aaron Tveit and Tony Shalhoub.
The teaser trailer for season 2 of PBS’ Mercy Street has finally arrived and you can view it below! The new season will premiere January 22, 2017 at 8/7c.
Exciting news! It has been revealed that Mary will be starring in season 3 of FX’s hit show Fargo. Co-starring opposite Ewan McGregor, Mary will play Nikki Swango, a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing. Nikki is a woman with a plan, focused on always being at least one move ahead of her opponents.
Said to be set closer to the present than Seasons 1 and 2 were, Season 3 focuses on a pair of lookalike brothers, both played by McGregor. The older of the two, Emmit Stussy is a good-looking, self-assured real estate magnate — aka the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. His younger bro, Ray, is a flabby parole officer who believes that Emmit is somehow responsible for his sorry state of affairs. Coon plays Gloria, the chief of the Eden Valley police.
Production is tentatively scheduled to begin later this year, with new episodes dropping in 2017.
A second season of BrainDead meanwhile, has yet to be announced by CBS.
