Mary Featured in The Lab Magazine!

With Smashed coming out this fall, The Lab magazine has done an interview with Mary with the questions being done by her Smashed co-star Nick Offerman. Below are some of the questions Nick asked Mary, and you can read the full interview here. Be sure to check out the lovely pics of Mary in the gallery. Love their interview! So charming and funny.

Have you been in a less comfortable scene than our driveway scene in Smashed

MEW—I can’t help but think you were more uncomfortable than me. I watched as you slowly died inside and I felt the utmost embarrassment for you. In a good way!

If you were forced to tell me a name-droppy story that your usual humility would normally prohibit, what would it be?

MEW—I once had dinner with Warren Beatty and Annette Bening and he told me stories about Natalie Wood, Madonna, and Edie Sedgwick. I just dropped that on you so hard.

NO—I tried Twitter for a few weeks then promptly quit because I think it has a pernicious influence upon us. How do you feel about the social network Kool-Aid?

MEW—I come very close to deleting my Twitter account on an almost daily basis, but it keeps reeling me in. I’m quite terrified of my own reliance on technology/social media and admired your decisive move away from it. I am simply too weak!

NO—Which of your co-stars did you find more charming: me or Donny Osmond?

MEW—The only real memory I have of Donny Osmond is that we threw him a party at which we all wore purple socks. Apparently he likes his socks in a particular hue. And he has a dazzling smile, but no facial hair. I think we all know who wins this battle.

Toronto Star Reviews Smashed Plus new The Spectacular Now Pics

With TIFF just around the corner, The Toronto Star has reviewed Mary’s upcoming film Smashed saying her performance is “superb”:

A superb, career-making performance by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Kate, a young, married Grade 1 teacher who is what they call a “high-functioning alcoholic.” Her husband (Aaron Paul) is her drinking buddy but the party is getting increasingly out of hand, as evidenced in the first shocking scenes. The script goes to some predictable places but is lifted by the supporting cast, especially Megan Mullally as her trusting principal and Mary Kay Place as Kate’s similarly afflicted mother.

So happy for Mary! Here’s to an Oscar nomination. 🙂

Also, some new behind-the-scenes pics of Mary in The Spectacular Now have been posted via the film’s screenplay writer, where Mary wrapped all her scenes for the film.

RT @thisisweber: That’s a wrap for the so cool, so talented @M_E_Winstead! Thank you for being a part of #TheSpectacularNow!

Smashed Gets October Release Date!

This is practically only two months away! Sony Classics acquired US distribution for Mary’s upcoming film Smashed, and has now set the release date for the film as October 12th.

If you recall, Smashed debuted at Sundance this year to incredibly strong reviews, and jointly won the Special Jury Prize for Excellence in Independent Film Producing.

Winstead will star alongside Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul, The Help‘s Octavia Spencer, Megan Mullaly, Parks & Rec’s Nick Offerman.

“Kate and Charlie like to have a good time. Their marriage thrives on a shared fondness for music, laughter . . . and getting smashed. When Kate’s partying spirals into hard-core asocial behavior, compromising her job as an elementary schoolteacher, something’s got to give. But change isn’t exactly a cakewalk. Sobriety means she will have to confront the lies she’s been spinning at work, her troubling relationship with her mother, and the nature of her bond with Charlie.”

SPC will likely give the film a limited release first in LA and New York before the film gets distributed nationwide. As more details emerge, I’ll let you all know! 🙂

Mary Joins New Indie Film, The Spectacular Now!

Chalk up a new film for Mary! Variety is reporting that Mary has joined James Ponsoldt’s latest film, The Spectacular Now. Along with new cast members Kyle Chandler, Bob Odenkirk and Andre Royo, Chandler will play Teller’s dad, while Winstead will play his sister.

The coming-of-age tale follows Sutter Keely (Teller), a high school senior who only lives for the moment, and Aimee Finecky (Woodley), the mercurial introvert he attempts to “save” from life as a social outcast. As their relationship deepens, the lines between right and wrong, friendship and love, saving and corrupting, become inextricably blurred.

The film stars Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller and Brie Larson, while Kaitlyn Dever, Masam Holden and Dayo Okeniyi with production currently underway in Athens, Georgia.

FYI: Mary & Ponsoldt most recently worked with Ponsoldt on the soon-to-be released film, SMASHED.

Congrats Mary! 🙂

Smashed Heading to the Toronto International Film Festival

In a new interview with Time, Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul revealed that his & Mary’s upcoming movie Smashed will head to the Toronto International Film Festival:

What’s next for you after Breaking Bad? What other projects are you working on?

I have a film [Smashed] coming out that debuted at Sundance. It’s going to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and then it’ll be released in theaters in mid-November. It’s a story of a young couple in love, and they’re also in love with drinking, and they’ve never known what it’s like to be sober together. Mary Elizabeth Winstead [plays the wife] and she starts to notice that her life is spiraling out of control, and she decides to try sobriety. And it kind of throws a wrench into the marriage, because they’ve never known what it’s like to be sober, and it loses its spark in a way. They try to figure out how to continue their lives without alcohol — with one trying to be sober and one continuing down his path of chaos.

The fall can’t get here enough. Super excited to see this film when it hits theaters!

FYI: The 37th annual Toronto International Film Festival, (TIFF) is scheduled to be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada between September 6 and September 16, 2012.
