Another new day, which means some brand new interviews with Mary! The first one comes from joblo.com.

Mary also did an interview with People.com where she shared she is hoping to do another project with her husband Ewan McGregor:

What they’re looking for in a Hollywood project “is something where we can be funny and heartfelt together at the same time,” adds Winstead, “because that’s how we are at home. We’re silly, but we’re very in love, so if we can bring that to something, then that’s the best way to kind of have the best of all worlds at work.”

Winstead and McGregor are “trying to think about how [careers fit] into” home life, she says, so if a project comes along that fulfills them creatively and allows for family time, they’re open to it. “At the end of the day, I feel very lucky that I have more happiness in my life. It’s just going towards that and finding the ways that my career can enhance that.”

The first one is with Bustle.

Name something you used to think was a big deal but really isn’t.

What people thought of me. I know that’s a really basic answer, but it’s true. Everyone always says you care less about that as you get older, and I’m finding that to be the case. Your life becomes more and more full, and so you have less and less space to think about some of those small things that you now realize don’t matter at all — what somebody thought about what you said at a party, or what you wore, or what your hair looked like. Or even in my career, going to an audition and thinking I’ve got to wear a certain color or something. All those things I now look back on and go, “Nobody ever cared.”

What was your last big splurge?

I’ve been getting a little bit of furniture, and I’m really into art deco at the moment. I found a beautiful art deco chest of drawers the other day that I’m really excited about.

What’s your biggest regret?

Any time I made myself small for someone else. I wish I could go back and go, “You don’t have to do that for anybody.”

You’ve always chosen characters with depth and emotional complexity. How do you decide when a role is right for you?

Ultimately, it always comes down to my connection with the story and the character. It’s not something you can really put into words, it’s just a feeling. Sometimes I read a script and I just think “I have to do this.”

What kind of roles or stories do you find yourself drawn to at this stage of your career?

I’m definitely drawn to stories about the complexities of motherhood as that’s a big part of my world these days and something I feel I can bring a lot of myself to. I also want to play every kind of human being, really. I just want to keep finding roles that are layered and give me a big space to play in.

Style Caster:

You’ve been in many horror and thriller movies. What do you like about the genre?

There’s a masochism element of loving being put through the ringer in some capacity. Because they’re always emotionally draining. I always want to go to the most real place, so that usually means, if my character is running for their life, that’s going to feel really real for me in the moment. I don’t know what it is about that that is so fun for me to play, but it’s incredibly cathartic to let it all out and scream and cry and claw and try to survive. I love characters who are survivors and in horror films, you really get to tap into that. And somebody like Caitlyn is someone who’s a real survivor, even if she’s often surviving in ways that are unhealthy by not really being her true self and creating this facade around herself. It’s still a survival mechanism.

What do you think about the scream queen title fans have bestowed on you?

I’m so honored to be called a queen of any kind. I love horror films. I couldn’t possibly not love being called that. It’s an absolute honor. I may be doing less horror films these days, so I don’t know if I’m still a scream queen, but I still dabble in it. I still enjoy it, so anyone who wants to call me that, I’ll happily take it.
