Mary Attends Summer TCA Panel

Mary had a busy day today promoting for the first time her upcoming PBS TV show, Mercy Street. The six-part miniseries follows the lives of two volunteer nurses on opposing sides of the war — New England abolitionist Mary Phinney (Winstead) and Confederate supporter Emma Green (Hannah James) — and is inspired by memoirs and letters from real doctors and nurses from that time. It takes place in a luxury hotel-turned hospital in Alexandria, Virginia — the longest occupied confederate town during the war — and explores those struggling to save lives while managing their own hardships.

Head to the gallery to check out the new pics as well as a new photoshoot!

Mercy Street debuts Sunday, January 17 at 10 PM following Episode 3 of Downton Abbey’s final season.

Mary to Appear on ‘Comedy Bang! Bang!’; Alex of Venice Headed to Netflix

As the title reads, I have two bits of information regarding Mary. First up, one of the new film releases for Netflix in August will be that the streaming service will now be playing Mary’s latest film, Alex of Venice. In case you never caught the film when it opened in limited release, Alex of Venice follows the story of a workaholic attorney (Winstead) who is forced to reinvent her life after her husband suddenly leaves.

The film itself was great, so if you have Netflix, look out for it on August 15th when it debuts.

In other news, next Thursday on August 6, Mary will be appearing on IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang!

No pictures have been released yet, but stay tuned for that. As for the episode description, it says Mary celebrates her birthday…even though (if I remember correctly), she filmed her episode back in March.

Nonetheless, stay tuned for screencaps from that episode! 🙂 Should be fun.

Mary Takes Part in Time Out NY’s Best Movies of All Time

Time out New York gathered over 70 actors to give their personal top ten favorite movie titles to collectively build the list of the 100 best movies of all time. Among the actors asked was Mary. Here’s what she had to say about the film Fargo:

I’ve seen Fargo more times than I can count at this point. Marge Gunderson is such an aspirational character for me, both as an actor and as a human. She’s who I want to be when I grow up.”—Mary Elizabeth Winstead

You can check out the entire list of other films and what other actor’s thoughts are by clicking the link above.

The 100 best films were chosen by asking “the actors themselves—performers of great renown and promising stature alike.” Below is Mary’s top 10 best films. (Click to enlarge):

Mary to Star in Swiss Army Man

Looks like Mary will continue having one busy summer! After just wrapping the PBS civil war drama Mercy Street just a couple of weeks ago, Deadline is reporting that Mary along with Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano will star in the indie dramedy, Swiss Army Man which is set to begin filming in July.

Directed by Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, AKA “the Daniels” and launched at the Sundance lab, the film centers on a hopeless man stranded in the wilderness who befriends a dead body and together they go on a surreal journey to get home.

No word yet on who is playing who exactly, but when more details get released, I’ll be sure to update you all.

A&E Cancels The Returned After One Season

Some news to report that’s a bit of a bummer. Mary’s A&E television show The Returned has been cancelled by the network due to poor ratings. The Returned launched with 1.5 million and closed out its maiden season with a 945,000 viewers.

On the upside, you can always re-watch the episodes over on the A&E site and check out all the pics from the show in our gallery. And let’s not forget that Mary is currently filming the PBS civil war drama, Mercy Street, set to air in January 2016. 🙂
